This book is about Flora and her little sister Ruby. They are orphans moving to Camden Falls. Their grandma, Min, lives there.

In Camden Falls Min owns the sewing shop Needle & Thread with Mary. Min also lives in a Row house. The Morris’s, the Willet’s, the Malone’s, the Fong’s, the Walter’s (Olivia, Mary’s granddaughter) also live in a Row house.

Flora and Ruby visited there before, so they are friends with Olivia. Flora, Ruby and Olivia help out at Needle & Thread over the summer. At Needle & Thread they have classes for stuff like embroidery.
Mrs. DuVane goes there for a class. She takes Nikki with her (Mrs. DuVane is friends with Nikki’s mom) but the class is only for adults. So Nikki ends up hanging out with Flora, Ruby and Olivia who are helping out at the store. Nikki doesn’t really want to be friends because she doesn’t like Olivia. After a while when Nikki gets blamed for something she didn’t do the three girls stand up for her. They solve the problem so Nikki isn’t blamed for that crime. They start to act like friends.
